The Kettenkrad officially called SdKfz 2, was, in fact, an abbreviation of "Kleines Kettenkraftrad HK 101". Ketten meaning "tracks", and kraftrad "motorcycle", later shortened. The other official designation was SdKfz 2, for "Sonderkraftfahrzeug" or "special purpose vehicle".
